Pastor Tim Smith

    Pastor Tim Smith

Pastor Tim Smith serves as minister to Leola United Methodist Church.  The summer of 2010 the congregation welcomed Pastor Tim, who  leads us forward as we grow in faith and spirit.  We experience a "new beginning" under his leadership. He is married to Donna, and together they have two children, Rebecca and Matthew.
Pastor Smith has been full time in ministry in the Eastern PA Conference for 27 years, and previously served five years at First United Methodist Church of Millersville.  His prior appointments include Mt. Hope in Aston (1984-1986), Gordon and Barry UMC’s in Gordon (1986-1990), St. Peter’s UMC in Saylorsburg (1990-1993), Bird in Hand UMC (1993-1999), and Ironville UMC (1999-2005).  He grew up in Lancaster County.

February Scripture and Preaching

The season of Epiphany, where God reveals the good news of Jesus Christ to all people, concludes this month.   The first Sunday of the month we find Jesus and the disciples at Simon’s house.  Simon’s mother-in-law is sick with a fever.  Jesus heals her and in response she begins serving. That night Jesus heals other people.
The following week Jesus encounters a man suffering from leprosy.  Jesus does the unthinkable and touches him.  We are reminded how Jesus always showed love and compassion to all people.  The man responds by telling everyone about Jesus.
The third Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday.  Peter, James and John are given a passing glimpse of Jesus’ true identity as the “Beloved Son.”  Epiphany concludes as it began with the voice of God speaking from the clouds, once again affirming Jesus’ identity.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent.  Our focus will be Paul’s letter to the Corinthians.  Paul pleads with the congregation to “be reconciled to God.”  Apparently their actions led them away from God.  We strive to live in God honoring ways.
The final Sunday of the month, the First Sunday in Lent, we turn to Genesis and the account of Noah and the Ark.  As the flood waters receded, God entered into a covenant relationship with humanity.  These readings are included each month to encourage persons to read and reflect on them prior to our worship service.
